Bone and stone. The most important raw materials the Inuit needed to take care of themselves in a nomadic way of life in an environment of long and severe frosts. And it was the life of the northernmost of the northerners that became the main inspiration for this year’s jewellery collection of Janja Prokić’s. The basic artistic motif of the collection is a human skull and a cone, and in addition to gold, silver and precious stones, the artist also used wood this time. The collection consists of jewels for everyday wear, but also of very atypical ones in the form of rattling ritual and meditative objects.
Ineō means breaking the ice under which there is life. “Each of us creates armour in their life. A defence crust that is strong and should protect us. But in reality, it traps the life-giving inner spring that is constantly issuing from the soul. It is important to break through and smash this layer of defence, which is often not pleasant. It‘s painful. With smashing comes scattering. At the end of such a process, however, cleansing and healing awaits. It is necessary for the spring to live, issue to the surface and wash away old deposits,” Janja Prokić explains her idea.
For the first time ever, Janja Prokić opted for cruder, unadorned shapes based on the aesthetics of the Inuit. In addition to gold and silver, the designer this time also used twigs collected from the environment of her escapes into nature. “These are sort of bones of the forest,” she explains the symbolism of sticks. Beryls, prehnites, moonstones, opals and crystals with tourmaline inclusions are used in the jewels. “I did not work them. Because in their original form they become a tool for use,” notes Janja Prokić.
The collection consists of jewels for everyday wear, but also of very atypical originals in the form of rattling ritual and meditative objects drawing the strength of semi-precious stones.
